A NEW WAY TO PRACTICE YOGA
Table of Contents
Why ABQ Yoga Lab Exists
Modern yoga forgot something essential.
- It forgot that yoga was never meant to be choreography, rows of people synchronizing their bodies to a teacher’s cues, repeating sequences they didn’t choose, and relying on external authority to tell them when they’re “ready.”
- It forgot that yoga is learned person to person, breath to breath, through progression, relationship, and the slow unfolding of practice inside the student. Not performance. Not replication.
And somewhere along the way, a new trend emerged: the word post-lineage getting used as a brand. A vibe. A way to sound liberated while still teaching the same guru derived sequences, the same power structures, the same hierarchies, only with a cooler aesthetic.
But moving beyond lineage is not a marketing position. It is not anti-guru rhetoric. And it definitely isn’t “doing the same thing, but with different language.”
To evolve yoga beyond lineage, you have to actually understand lineage:
its histories, its gifts, its pressures, its conditioning, and the ways authority becomes embedded in method, not just in people.
I spent 20 years inside those systems (Ashtanga, Satyananda, and their extended branches). I learned how structure works on the body, how repetition shapes identity, how silence functions as currency, and how students learn to depend on teachers for permission, progress, and praise.
But I also learned what actually transforms people: practice that arises from their own body, pace, breath, and readiness.
ABQ Yoga Lab was built from that knowledge.
Not as rebellion or rebranding. But as restoration…returning yoga to a relationship where the student becomes the keeper of their own practice. This is yoga without choreography, without dependency. Yoga learned progressively, personally, and from the inside out.
Learn Your Practice, Not Someone Else’s
Most yoga classes ask you to follow along with choreography. ABQ Yoga Lab asks you to learn your practice — a sequence built for your body, your rhythms, and your current state. So you can practice anywhere, anytime, without needing a teacher, app, or video.
This is a pilot program, the first of its kind in Albuquerque, with just 4 spots available.
Modern yoga classes rely on synchronization: everyone doing the same movements at the same time while the teacher calls out cues.
This creates a dependency: without the teacher, the playlist, and the group, most people can’t practice on their own.
ABQ Yoga Lab reverses that model.
Instead of teaching routines, I teach you — one student at a time, according to your physiology, your dose of energy, and your current imbalance (Vata, Pitta, or Kapha).
This isn’t about performing yoga. It’s about building a practice that’s actually yours.
What Makes the Lab Different
In the Lab, you’re not following along with a class. Every person in the room is practicing something different. Each student is learning their own sequence, step by step, with individual guidance.
It’s a hybrid environment — part traditional shala, part clinic, part skills lab.
You’re learning yoga in the way it was historically taught: progressively, personally, and from the inside out.
“After all the yoga classes I had attended, I hadn’t really learned yoga at all! Yoga Lab incorporates all aspects of yoga – not just asana. I feel better. I’m gaining strength, balance, nervous system regulation, and a practice that’s finally mine.”
– Babi Soto, 14 years of yoga experience
How It Works
- Rolling Enrollment
Students join at different times of the month. Wherever you begin, you’ll be guided into your track and supported as you grow. - Personal Assessment
On your first day, you’ll receive a short pulse and tongue reading to determine your current doshic state. - Your Unique Sequence
You’ll begin with a 10-minute practice tailored to your dosha. Once memorized, you’ll learn the next 10 minutes, and continue layering in more until you’ve built a complete 60-minute rhythm practice that is entirely your own.

Lab Environment
Your membership includes two in-person lab sessions each week, where I guide, refine, and add to your sequence. In between, you’ll be expected to practice at home so you memorize what you’ve learned. The lab is not about following choreography in class, it’s about owning your practice and carrying it into your daily life.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if I miss a session?
Because the lab builds step by step, consistency matters. If you miss a session, you’re expected to continue practicing the part of your sequence you already know at home. When you return, we’ll pick up where you left off. (This is not a drop-in model.)
Do I need to know Ayurveda already?
Not at all. I’ll guide you through everything you need to know. Your practice will be based on your pulse and tongue assessment — no prior experience with Ayurveda required.
How is this different from a regular yoga class?
In a drop-in class, you follow along with choreography. In the lab, you learn your own sequence, step by step. The expectation is that you’ll practice at home so you memorize it. Over time, you’ll build a complete 60-minute practice that’s truly yours.
Is this like private lessons?
No. The lab is a small group environment. I circulate to guide each student, but you’ll be working alongside others, each learning their own practice. Think of it as a membership space, not 1:1 teaching.
How many people are in the lab?
Enrollment is capped at 6 students to keep the space intimate. This is a pilot program, so your feedback will help shape how it grows.
How much does it cost?
Membership is $130/month. This includes your initial assessment, twice-weekly lab sessions, and ongoing refinement of your sequence.
What if I can’t make two sessions per week?
You’ll still benefit from one session weekly, as long as you’re committed to your home practice. The lab model works best with both sessions, but you’ll always be supported at the pace you’re able to attend.
